Description

Lakelander Arlene Davis is shown in this 1950 photograph dressed in early-American period clothing while carrying out her duties as a housekeeper at the Rossborough Inn. Built around 1803, the inn is located in College Park and was built to serve travelers on the road between the District of Columbia and Baltimore. The Inn became part of the Maryland Agricultural College (now the University of Maryland) in 1858. It had served a variety of purposes until it was restored as an inn during the 1930s. Since1954, the inn has been the home of the university's Faculty Club. (Courtesy of Elizabeth Campbell Adams)
